Methods Clinic: Math for Social Scientists

Our innovative Methods Clinic, run by Levente Littvay (CEU Democracy Institute, HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences Budapest) aims to help our fellows further develop their research skills. Based on the fellows’ needs, the classes are dedicated to various research methods and are taught by experts of the given methodology.

The workshops are held in Budapest but open to every fellow via Zoom.

Recently, computational scientist Julia Koltai (HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences and Eotvos Lorand University of Sciences, Budapest) taught a course entitled Math for Social Scientists, designed to provide the foundations of critical mathematical background in quantitative social science research.

The class focused on topics that are the most often used by social scientists: focus dimensions of calculus, linear algebra and probability theory.
