Andras Sajo Receives Hungarian State Honor
We are happy to share that Andras Sajo, CEU Professor Emeritus, a member of the DI’s Rule of Law Workgroup and Advisory Board Member of the Global Forum on Democracy and Development project, has been awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary (Civil Division).
The state honor was presented on 20 August, Hungary’s national holiday. Andras Sajo was recognized for his outstanding scholarly work in constitutional law and for his service as a judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
Andras Sajo was the founding Dean of CEU’s Legal Studies program. He served as a judge of the ECtHR from 2009 to 2017. He has also held visiting professorships at institutions including New York University and Cardozo School of Law. He is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
The Order of Merit of Hungary is among the country’s principal state honors, recognizing significant contributions in fields including science, culture, education and public service.
