Kenneth Roberts Discusses Trump on Hungary's Klubradio

“If Trump comes to power, it will be a huge challenge for US democracy,” our expert for the Global Forum on Democracy and Development project, Kenneth Roberts (Cornell University) told Klubradio in an interview he gave when he was in Budapest for the DI Annual Conference/our project’s kick-off conference.

In the interview, recorded in early June, Kenneth Roberts said when Donald Trump had refused to accept the results of the election and to hand over his office peacefully, he had reached a level of violation of democratic norms that had been unprecedented in the U.S. If he wins again, he will take revenge on his political opponents. “Trump’s first administration had no idea what direction to take,” Kenneth Roberts said. “The second administration will be much more decisive, with a vision of the future they want to build for themselves.”

“This would be the beginning of a Trumpian form of American autocracy,” he said.

The interview was also published in written form on Infovilag.hu
