Research project
Ideological Differences in Polarized Attitudes Towards Populist Parties
This research aims to investigate the specific features that define the attitudes of populist left and right parties towards each other, and how these attitudes differ from those held by mainstream opposition parties. While much of the existing research has focused predominantly on the far-right, this study will explore whether there are inherent aspects of populist ideology itself—as moderated by notoriety and success—that fuel negative sentiments among ideologically similar groups. Specifically, this study seeks to understand whether generalized populist beliefs inherently provoke dislike and polarization from similar ideological parties or if these differences change on party lines.
